Faces of C. G. Road, Ahmedabad

In collaboration with HCPDPM

Evolving public spaces are best understood with reference to the growth pattern of a city; how they accommodate for the demands of the city and their role in people's day to day lives.

Chimanlal Girdharlal Road (C. G. Road) has always been an important arterial street in Ahmedabad. Emerged as a retail destination for the city in the 1980s, the street struggled with parking and traffic conflicts, making it unsafe for pedestrians. In 1994, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) appointed HCP to comprehensively design the street to make it efficient and safe.

While the identity of C. G. Road as a retail street remains, twenty-five years later, in 2019, it was refurbished to cater to the growing demands of the city.

In collaboration with HCPDPM, we documented user feedback through on-site observations and one-on-one interviews.
